Chess Strategy

Just like most games, in order to be a success with chess you need to have a strategy. And when it comes to strategy, chess is one of the most tactical games on the face of the earth. If you plan on becoming a great chess player, you are going to have to devise a successful strategy. Of course, this is something that is easier said than done. Even the best chess players in the world are always tweaking their style and tactics in order to give themselves the best chance of winning.

There are two things to keep in mind when putting together a chess strategy. First off, you need to set long term goals that you are interested in achieving over the course of the game. If you reach these goals, you should find yourself in good position to win the game. An example of a long term goal may have to do with how you want to set up your pieces, or a position that you want to force your opponent into.

The other part of a chess strategy has to do with the immediate moves that you will make. It is these tactical decisions that will affect your long term goals. As you can imagine, if you are successful with your short term, immediate tactics, you will have a much better chance of achieving long term success.

As mentioned above, you will not want to completely separate your long term and short term goals. If you do this, you will find out soon enough that they are not coinciding to help you reach the overall goal of winning.

Chess Opening Game

Generally speaking, your strategy and tactical moves can be broken down into three phases of the game. The opening is usually thought to be the first 10 to 20 moves that are made by each player. During the opening you will spend your time getting your pieces into place, and of course, devising your long term goals.

Chess Middle Game

The middle game takes place directly after the first 20 or so moves. During this phase, you will begin to stage attacks, and the board will more or less develop. The way that you play during this stage of the game will determine if you are moving in the right direction.

Chess End Game

Finally, the end game is when both players have lost key pieces, and strategy really comes into play. During this phase, your king is going to be a huge part of your success. You need to make sure that your king is in the best possible position.

As you play chess more and more, you will become more comfortable with your long term strategy and short term tactical moves.
